Artstor is collaborating with Andrew Spence to share images of his work in the Digital Library. Spence (b. 1947) is a New York-based artist known for his abstract paintings. He has exhibited widely in many solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, and his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. He received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in painting in 1987 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in painting in 1994. Since 1994, Spence has been a member of the Visual Arts faculty at Bennington College in Vermont. He is currently represented by the Edward Thorp Gallery in New York City, which hosted three of his most recent solo exhibitions in 2001, 2002, and 2006.
