Becoming a participant: Colleges and Universities (UK)

Classification

The goal of the ARTstor classification system is fairness. All institutions that participate in ARTstor are assessed participation fees based on their specific classification, which is determined by a system developed by ARTstor. The established classifications take into consideration the size and research scope of given institutions.

For Higher Education and Further Education institutions, Research Councils, and Special Colleges in the United Kingdom, ARTstor has chosen to follow the special banding system already established by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The JISC bandings are well understood within this community and the assignment of institutions to a JISC band is done by a respected outside party. ARTstor participation fees have been mapped to the JISC bands. You can locate your institution's JISC band for ARTstor classification from the JISC website.

For assistance in determining your ARTstor classification, or with questions about your classification, please complete the Participation Form.

Step 2: Participation Fees >

Participation Fees

Participating institutions enter a site-wide license permitting unlimited simultaneous access to the Digital Library by all faculty, staff, and students at the institution (as well as to walk-in users). In addition, participants have access to a dedicated support team and a variety of training opportunities.

Participation fees vary depending upon the JISC banding of each institution. Once you have determined your institution's JISC band for ARTstor classification from the JISC website, please consult the participation fee table below. All Further Education (FE) institutions pay a flat annual participation fee as noted below; eligible Further Education institutions are listed on the JISC website.

JISC Banding Category AAF (annual)
Band A £11,400
Band B £7100
Band C £7100
Band D £4900
Band E £4900
Band F £2900
Band G £2900
Band H £1700
Band I £1700
Band J £1700
