Associate Director, Library Relations - Sales

The Associate Director, Library Relations-Sales is responsible for obtaining Shared Shelf subscriptions within the non-profit educational and museum communities in the United States and internationally. Shared Shelf is a cloud-based, enterprise-wide image hosting, cataloging and management software system being developed by ARTstor – along with nine non-profit partners — for use by non-profit institutions worldwide. ARTstor is itself a non-profit organization with a mission to utilize digital technologies to facilitate teaching, research and learning in the arts and sciences. The aim of Shared Shelf is to create an innovative and efficient, institution-wide image management, cataloging and usage infrastructure, informed by the expertise of the community. Working closely with ARTstor senior leadership, the Associate Director will oversee and initiate efforts to develop strategies to expand Shared Shelf participation. The Associate Director will be responsible for gathering and analyzing market data, reviewing pricing strategies, working closely with academic and cultural institutions to facilitate uptake of Shared Shelf, and informing individual institutions and the broader community about the aims, development, and features of Shared Shelf. This position will require some travel (20%-30%), and will demand a self-motivated, flexible, organized team player who thrives in an environment of constant change. This position is based in New York, NY.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop sales strategies to facilitate new sales; and processes and policies to support retention efforts.
  • Communicate ARTstor's mission, and the aims, features and components of Shared Shelf, as well as the subscription model (used to support and sustain the development of the system).
  • Identify and develop relationships with institutions interested in subscribing to Shared Shelf among the academic and cultural communities on an institutional and consortia level.
  • Facilitate subscriptions in Shared Shelf at the institutional and consortia level by demonstrating the service and tools, and by providing librarians and faculty members with useful information and strategies for promoting Shared Shelf as a campus-wide resource and platform.
  • Informing the educational and cultural communities at conferences and other events about Shared Shelf and its features, as they develop.
  • Keeping up-to-date on various ARTstor initiatives and developments and being able to communicate these initiatives to potential subscribers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience in an academic library or web/software related position.
  • Business development, marketing, and/or academic library experience.
  • Strong technology skills, including familiarity with metadata structures, trends and web development as well as project management experience, and a working knowledge of image management software and database technology.
  • Current domestic and international librarian and consortia level contacts.
  • Excellent communication skills in a variety of settings.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform independently, be self-motivated, adapt to constant change and able to juggle multiple tasks with a positive attitude.
  • Strong commitment and interest in the use of images or enterprise-wide software systems in an educational setting.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with ARTstor.
  • Demonstrated success working with librarians and other decision makers in higher education to provide digital content and/or software solutions.
  • Advanced Degree.
