Director of Marketing

The role of the Director of Marketing is to develop and implement strategic marketing plans to support the sale and promotion of ARTstor services. The primary component of this role is to define, develop, and promote brand awareness. Working directly with the Business Development teams, the Director will be responsible for the production of materials and innovative approaches to support sales and broad use of ARTstor services, both subscription-based (ARTstor Digital Library and Shared Shelf) and free (Built Works Registry and Images for Academic Publications).

ARTstor (artstor.org) is a nonprofit organization that makes available the ARTstor Digital Library, with more than 1.5 million images to enhance education and scholarship in 1,500 institutions and museums worldwide. ARTstor also offers Shared Shelf (sharedshelf.org), a Web-based cataloging and image management software service that allows institutions to catalog, edit, store, and share local collections.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and facilitate annual marketing plans to support the Business Development teams in the promotion of ARTstor products to potential subscribers and in retaining current users;
  • Develop approaches to broaden ARTstor Digital Library audiences in humanities and social science departments;
  • Identify and create case studies of ARTstor Digital Library and Shared Shelf utilization;
  • Develop and implement efforts to create broader awareness of Shared Shelf among potential individual faculty members and departments across campuses and collecting institutions;
  • Develop strategies to broaden awareness of ARTstor's value and services among museums and other collecting organizations around the world;
  • Work with senior leadership, translate business objective and strategies to develop and communicate a consistent brand message;
  • Edit collateral and materials;
  • Identify market research needs/requirements within the organization and utilize the appropriate resources (channels) to develop research proposals and methodologies that will address these needs, including producing reports and data to be used by the Business Development and Technology Departments;
  • Analyze market research data and share results internally to support sales, development, and user retention.
  • Supervise the Communications Team.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of marketing experience in an online and/or education environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience deploying social media to raise awareness of innovative and mission-driven services.
  • Attention to details with the ability to manage projects from inception to execution.
  • Dynamic, entrepreneurial self-starter with a hands-on approach to the position.
  • Well organized with ability to handle multiple tasks, manage teams, and prioritize.
