Features: Digital Asset Management

Shared Shelf will store and back up high-resolution images and provide the following digital asset management functions:
- Support for still images (in the future we will explore the extent to which the system will accommodate QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR), audio, and video files).
- The ability to upload source files from which a set of derivative images will be created (cloud-based storage).
- Web-based uploading of individual image files (and bulk data records).
- A client-based uploading application.
- Auto-ingestion of embedded data (select IPTC, XMP, EXIF fields).
- Storage of source images files.
Shared Shelf will be able to ingest TIFF, JPEG, and PNG files. Given that uploading large sets of images via the Internet can be time-consuming and variable depending on Internet connection speeds, ARTstor is developing bulk uploading tools to optimize the transfer of content to the greatest extent possible. As we release best practice guides for Shared Shelf, we will provide guidance as to expected upload rate given your institutional bandwidth. Alternatively, ARTstor can provide fee-based custom migration services to load your content into Shared Shelf.
While much of the infrastructure is in place for Shared Shelf to serve as a preservation service in the future, we look forward to discussing with subscribing institutions what level of repository service we should seek to provide as we develop the service over the coming years.
