Proxy server configuration
A proxy server is a computer that acts as an intermediary between a remote user and the electronic resources available at a particular institution. When a user logs in via proxy, it forwards requests to the library's licensed resources, making it appear as if the user is working on-campus and therefore coming from a valid IP address.
Proxy servers must be configured to work with ARTstor.
EZProxy
If you are using EZProxy, please contact userservices@artstor.org for the most up-to-date configuration file entry:
After adding the entry for ARTstor, remember to restart your EZProxy server for the changes to take effect. Please note that the AnonymousUrl setting will only work for versions 2.0 and higher.
Proxy configuration not working?
If you are unable to successfully access ARTstor through your institution's proxy server, please email userservices@artstor.org and tell us what error messages (if any) you received when logging in to ARTstor. Please also include the type of proxy used by your institution with the software name and version number, and provide us with a guest account for our tech team to use when troubleshooting as well as the link for logging in to the proxy server.
While we are troubleshooting your proxy server configuration, your users can still take advantage of the Remote Access Grace Period which grants registered users remote access to ARTstor for 120 days after logging into their ARTstor account from a campus workstation.
Helpful hint
If remote access is working fine at your institution, you may want to consider having two links from your library website for ARTstor: one for on-campus use (that goes directly to ARTstor) and one for off-campus access (that routes users through your proxy server). ARTstor's response time is greatly enhanced by direct access.
