Renaissance Society: University of Chicago
Overview
ARTstor is collaborating with the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago to share approximately 5,000 images of contemporary art and exhibition installation views. This collection includes painting, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and multi-media work, spanning decades of artistic production. The collection includes works by seminal contemporary artists who exhibited at the Renaissance Society, such as: Nancy Spero, Raymond Pettibon, Francis Alÿs, Eva Hesse, Kerry James Marshall, Shahzia Sikander, and others.
From its opening in 1915, the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago http://www.renaissancesociety.org has been a leading space for innovative contemporary art and programming. During its first several decades the Renaissance Society hosted Férnand Leger’s first exhibit in the United States, as well as shows dedicated to László Maholy-Nagy, Isamu Noguchi, the Blue Rider group, among other modern masters, regularly debuting new works. For nearly one hundred years it has continued in this capacity, exhibiting important and challenging work by leading contemporary artists, often early in their careers, before they are shown in major museums and galleries. In addition to its robust exhibition program, The Renaissance Society sponsors concerts, performances, film and video screenings, poetry and fiction readings, and lectures by noted contemporary artists, critics and scholars.
