Artstor and the New Museum of Contemporary Art to Collaborate
The New Museum of Contemporary Art is the first and only museum in New York City devoted solely to contemporary art. Since it was founded in 1977, the museum has developed a curatorial program focused on presenting innovative and adventurous contemporary art by emerging and established artists from around the world.
The New Museum has preserved a photographic archive of exhibition installations and individual works from 1977 to the present. As such, the archive chronicles the development of contemporary art through the exhibitions and performances mounted at the New Museum since its founding. Artstor is partnering with the New Museum to digitize approximately 7,000 images from the photo archive and distribute them through the Digital Library for scholarly and educational use.
The collection in the Artstor Digital Library will include, among others, works by the following artists: Donald Sultan, Keith Haring, Richard Prince, Jeff Koons, David Hammons, John Baldessari, Adrian Piper, Robert Colescott, Mark Tansey, Tony Oursler, Bill Jensen, Tom Friedman, Joan Jonas, William Kentridge, Paul McCarthy, Ana Mendieta, Bruce Nauman, and Andre Serrano. Through this partnership, Artstor will significantly increase the representation of contemporary art in the Digital Library.
