ARTstor welcomes Christine Kuan as the new Director of Collection Development
ARTstor is pleased to welcome Christine Kuan as the new Director of Collection Development. Christine brings to ARTstor significant experience in curating image collections, editing textual materials, acquiring images, and developing online resources in the visual arts.
For the past four years, she served as the Senior Editor of Grove Art Online and the Grove Dictionaries of Art at Oxford University Press. In this role, Christine directed Grove Art’s print and online editorial program, and implemented its first digital image collection. She formed this successful collection by securing partnerships with a diverse range of sources—including museums, galleries, scholars, stock photo agencies, and individual artists. In addition, she has collaborated with more than 1,000 international art historians to update and augment the content within Grove Art Online, and to produce a number of award-winning publications in art history.
As an active member of the visual arts community, Christine has spoken at the College Art Association, the Visual Resources Association, and the Art Libraries Society of North America. She also participates in several other professional associations, such as the Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art, Computers and the History of Art, and the Museum Computer Network.
As the Director of Collection Development, Christine joins the senior staff of ARTstor, where her responsibilities include: convening a collection development committee that will review ARTstor’s collections and recommend collection opportunities; identifying collections that should be made available through the ARTstor Digital Library; working closely with scholars, slide librarians, artists, galleries, and others to enhance ARTstor’s content and services; and communicating with both content providers and users about ARTstor’s aims, tools, mission, and the services it provides.
