Artstor is collaborating with the Rothko Family Collections to share approximately 1,000 images of works on paper by Mark Rothko in the Digital Library. The additional images to be added to Artstor will consist of drawings and sketches spanning Rothko’s entire career. The images will be digitized from 35 mm slides, many photographed from original sketchbooks. Mark Rothko is currently represented in Artstor with approximately 80 images of paintings, which have been created from high-quality color transparences, originally produced for the Mark Rothko catalogue raisonné. When complete, the collection in Artstor will include approximately 1,300 images of paintings and works on paper by the artist. The Family will provide cataloging information for all the digitized images, many of which depict works by Rothko that have not been previously published.
