Renowned photojournalist Erich Lessing passed away on August 29th in Vienna, Austria at the age of 95.

A member of Magnum Photos and a former Associated Press photographer, he began his career photographing political events before switching his focus to cultural subjects.

He published approximately 60 books, including The Voyages of Ulysses: A Photographic Interpretation of Homer’s Classic (1965) and The Louvre: All the Paintings (2011).

Artstor contains approximately 14,000 images of Lessing’s work documenting Western art from the Lessing Culture and Fine Arts Archive, and more than 600 photojournalistic images from the Magnum Photos collection.
