Artstor is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for persons with disabilities. We apply WCAG and Section 508 standards to improve the user experience for everyone.

The latest Artstor Digital Library Accessibility VPAT (PDF) reports our level of conformance with both Section 508 and WCAG standards and guidelines. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The target for Artstor is AA.

Measures to support accessibility

The website is accessible to users with disabilities, including persons using a keyboard and those with visual and cognitive impairments. The website is responsive, meaning users can easily adjust font size, magnification, and color/contrast settings on most devices without the loss of functionality or information. We regularly use automated checks and conduct tests with users against Section 508 and WCAG standards to evaluate and measure the accessibility of the site. For users with visual impairments, Artstor provides image descriptions when they are provided by the publisher.

Technical specifications

Accessibility of Artstor relies on HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, and Javascript technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer. It has been tested and verified that interface components on Artstor are accessible via keyboard.

The Artstor site does not support versions of Internet Explorer earlier than v. 11. We support current browser versions (Internet Explorer 11+, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Chrome), along with the corresponding screen reader (Narrator, VoiceOver, JAWS, and NVDA).

Known limitations

Content that flashes at certain frequencies can trigger seizures in individuals who have photosensitive seizure disorders. A small number of videos on Artstor display flashing at higher than recommended frequencies for viewers with such disorders. We are currently exploring remediation. To avoid seizure, users with photosensitivity should contact Artstor support for more information prior to viewing videos.
